00:00Well, I will call this meeting to order.

00:10I, Tim asked me to chair the meeting as he has gone on and, and late, I think you also

00:16deferred to me because you're, you're out of town and it's a lot easier to have somebody

00:21in person.

00:22So, I will do what I can to do my best.

00:26I guess, is there any additions or corrections to the, the, that need to be done to the agenda?

00:35If not, we'll stay as it is printed.

00:40I'm just a disclaimer to everyone that's here, we'll give you an opportunity to make

00:48public comments, but we can't take action on any of those because you could ask for

00:54us to put it on the agenda at a later meeting as we come up at the next meeting or a special

01:00meeting if that's necessary.

01:03We are being videoed as of the July meeting, I think, when we started.

01:09And if you do address the, the board, we won't probably even answer your questions unless

01:17it's out in, unless it's not Mr. Hardy or, or, or Mrs. Buer, Mrs. Buer can handle for you.

01:24Okay.

01:25That being said, I would entertain a motion to approve the minutes.

01:34I'll, I'll excuse the public comments.

01:37Is there anybody that wanted to, or you missed that?

01:40I think everybody's, maybe you want to speak to us on the agenda.

01:43I got a public comment.

01:45I just want to, just everyone in this room and whoever's online, I just want to thank

01:54Scott Ferris for everything he's done for this school for 37 years.

01:5837?

01:5937.

02:00I think we all, the new work Scott did until someone's gone, you don't realize the magnitude

02:09of what he did.

02:11And he was a guy I looked forward to seeing every day.

02:15We talked about things.

02:17I know he loved this school and the kids that worked for him.

02:22And he was just a great guy.

02:25He's going to be really missed, not only about his school, but the lives that he touched.

02:33So, and I appreciate that.

02:35I thought about mentioning that.

02:37I missed that.

02:39So I'm glad.

02:41Thanks.

02:43And I just, just like that.

02:45Just always there.

02:47I mean, you'd be here in the summer.

02:49He was there.

02:51You'd be here in the winter.

02:53He's there.

02:55You'd drive by.

02:57He's out there.

02:59Hey, now I'll move on to the minutes.

03:01I would entertain a motion to approve those steps and minutes.

03:04I would say, care for second, sir.

03:06Any discussion?

03:08Discussion.

03:10All those in favor of approval of the minutes?

03:12Say aye.

03:14Opposed?

03:16Same time.

03:18Maybe if you're still there.

03:20Yeah.

03:22All right.

03:24Yeah.

03:26Okay.

03:28Now we'll move on to the principal report.

03:30All right.

03:32So, this is, it's called the pre-X or vocational rehab.

03:34This is a program through Montana DPHHS

03:36that provides funding

03:38for pre-employment transition services

03:40for students that have a documented

03:42documented disability.

03:44Like a kid on a Bible 4 and an IEP.

03:46And they don't even have to have

03:48beyond one of those programs

03:50as long as they have a documented disability.

03:52It would, I just,

03:54we met the lady last week.

03:56We would essentially provide services such as

03:58work-based learning,

04:00which some of our kids already knew.

04:02You know, they have to go into the

04:04workforce during the school day,

04:06job exploration,

04:08any type of work readiness training

04:10or post-secondary counseling.

04:12If we were to bring

04:14a college speaker,

04:16you know, to your George College,

04:18any of our kids

04:20that have a documented disability,

04:22we would report that in a quarterly report

04:24and we would get $125

04:26per

04:28experience per kid

04:30we have enrolled with them.

04:32The parents will have to,

04:34if we go through with this, the parent

04:36will have to enroll their child

04:38for saying we have to get some information.

04:40But I know like one of our students

04:42already goes to Cromwell's

04:44and helps,

04:46helps with the truck

04:48and we could use that to pay him a wage.

04:50So he's making money

04:52that could be incorporated into his classroom

04:54where they were learning budgeting, things like that.

04:56So after I met with her,

04:58I really thought this would be a good program,

05:00something that the money is there

05:02for this and a lot of people don't take it,

05:04a lot of schools don't take advantage of it.

05:06And so we're, I'm going to work with Mrs. Campbell on,

05:08because Mrs. Campbell will be more

05:10paperwork on her end than it would be

05:12on our end to document some of these things.

05:14But I think we could work together

05:16and do it and get some

05:18funds for some of these programs

05:20that I think would be important.

05:22So that's in the works, I'll keep

05:24you updated on that.

05:26The mask testing, which is our name state testing,

05:28working with Mrs. Rask,

05:30she's done a lot of training

05:32on our new testing portal.

05:34She sent it out to the teachers to start

05:36to be able to look on there.

05:38We have to set up our testlets

05:40for math.

05:42So our teachers are working on math,

05:44our teachers that teach math,

05:46Mrs. Madernach, Mrs. Green and Mr. Stathes,

05:48they can pick when we test

05:50each testlet based on when they teach the standards.

05:52So it's new for all of us,

05:54so it's kind of a learning curve,

05:56but I think we'll get through it

05:58and I think it will hopefully be a good

06:00tool that we can use throughout the year

06:02rather than one test at the end.

06:04Upcoming, we did the book last last year

06:06and had a phenomenal response.

06:08So we're doing it again this year.

06:10We'll see if we get as good of a response

06:12or if we need to take a year in between.

06:14We'll see.

06:16We ended up with like $1,800

06:18that came back to the school directly

06:20that teachers could use with books.

06:22I ended up giving all of them

06:24gift cards to this

06:26school supply store

06:28online with our remaining amounts

06:30so that they were able to use that for themselves

06:32and their classrooms.

06:34So that will be

06:36the 16th through the 25th.

06:38You'll see if you look here on our Facebook page

06:40we post things on there and

06:42the winners of all the fun prizes they have.

06:44I'm doing the Title I training

06:46in the Mild City next week.

06:48We did our Title I

06:50which is called an audit.

06:52We started that

06:54and we learned there's a lot of things

06:56that go into Title I that we didn't even realize.

06:58Federal reporting

07:00and forms that we have to send didn't know

07:02it was a thing.

07:04So I think this training will be good for me

07:06so that I know as well

07:08going forward how we incorporate and do all

07:10check all the boxes.

07:12And then Red Ribbon Week which is all the way at the end of October

07:14but I already had the Board of Patrol

07:16Kurt Nelson

07:18who's been in touch with the Board of Patrol in the Sheriff's Office

07:20come to meet with me

07:22to kind of line up some things.

07:24Coffee with a cop and the Board of Patrol

07:26would like to do something that week.

07:28Which actually works out because Ms. Woodock

07:30usually was kind of spearhead of Red Ribbon Week

07:32so Kim Miller

07:34who's our prevention specialist has reached out

07:36and along with our Board of Patrol

07:38and Sheriff's Department

07:40they will kind of help so it's not one person

07:42necessarily doing it all.

07:44So that would be good for that week.

07:46Any questions?

07:48Thanks.

07:50You're already?

07:52Okay, first thing I got is the roof on the big

07:54gym as we know 25 years is up

07:56the old brothers came

07:58and they looked at that gym

08:00and I'm still waiting on two quotes.

08:02Essentially

08:04one quote is going to be what it would take

08:06if we replaced it all

08:08and the second quote would be maybe

08:10some type of

08:12repair that can go on that would be considered

08:14be cheaper that would work.

08:16With that I just have to make sure I talk

08:18with Perry Wolf to ensure that

08:20insurance would cover that. That's the big thing.

08:22I also talked to Rasmussen

08:24today.

08:26He's going to come walk the roof too so we'll

08:28out.

08:30He heard the bid was out I said no there's no bid

08:32yet. Overdoing is just

08:34gathering. Basically we want

08:36to know as a quote do we have it in our

08:38Builder Reserve Fund.

08:40What's the number if we have to go

08:42ask our tax bearer to

08:44get that roof covered.

08:46And

08:48secondly

08:50I've seen maybe that

08:52riffs in good shape and we'll get another five years out

08:54of it. I don't know yet so I will let you know

08:56as soon as I know.

08:58Kitchen supplies

09:00it's another thing the double door stainless bridge

09:04broke.

09:06We ordered a new one and got that moved in

09:08last Friday

09:10morning.

09:12And then also looking at

09:14ordering a new cart

09:16for food. Remember we're cash heavy

09:18in that account.

09:20And second from other things

09:22we actually had to kind of get rid of it.

09:24That sort of getting created. You saw all that

09:26kind of stuff so that would come out of that

09:28account.

09:30Ooh the big one entrances for

09:32games.

09:34We have some fireworks it's okay

09:36so we close

09:38this out doors for entrance. I think

09:40it's important to know like when we talked

09:42about it and kind of start looking at numbers

09:44we average like two to five people

09:46in the back door for volleyball over the last

09:48couple years. We're talking about

09:5025 people

09:52at a max for basketball games

09:54that use that back door.

09:56I understand and sympathize

09:58with everyone yes our parking is horrible

10:00I'm not here to argue but I

10:02would say you know the metro you probably

10:04walk a lot farther if you want to stay back

10:06the ball in the music center

10:08on ice as well.

10:10I guess the question and the guidance

10:12I'm looking for is do we just close that

10:14down like we said we were going to

10:16do

10:18or option B

10:20I know

10:22it was brought that volunteers I do not think

10:24that's the way to go.

10:26Just because light comes up and I think you get really

10:28confusing for our people

10:30if it's open one game I couldn't be

10:32able to next and open and closed

10:34or third

10:36which we kind of

10:38test it out we can close those doors

10:40put a gate across it

10:42and funnel people down this hallway

10:44and up the ramp

10:46to one ticket spot location.

10:48So

10:50just kind of looking for guidance

10:52I mean

10:54there isn't

10:56it's doable

10:58it's kind of what we did

11:00this last volleyball game

11:02I mean the director wasn't locked

11:04people could come in

11:06I think my frustration

11:08in all honesty is I know there's a lot of things said

11:10my frustration

11:12I heard from three people that actually

11:14reached out to me

11:16I shouldn't say four

11:18one with the concern

11:20three that were actually glad that back door

11:22was shut.

11:24So from my perspective

11:26no one that

11:28the issue that hasn't reached out and even called

11:30or talked to us about

11:32at daily capacity

11:34which then in that case

11:36makes me think it was a good decision

11:38right?

11:40So

11:44where I'm leaning

11:46is opening that back door

11:48and basically blocking

11:50off and funneling to one ticket location

11:52while making track

11:54there's only

11:56people doing it and next year

11:58we say

12:00so when you come in front

12:02then you'll have to come into the main school

12:04and around also

12:06you just come

12:08and then we'd be

12:10so these doors would be shut in the back

12:12and they'd lock by a mist

12:14with oxhole the room

12:16and then

12:18you know

12:20as we were getting barricaded

12:22there are already a few covers in the comments

12:24what are the teachers

12:26getting tickets?

12:28Nothing

12:30so that was

12:32negotiated in

12:34well before I was here

12:36or in the master agreement that

12:38it falls under duties as a sign

12:40that was

12:42a piece of negotiations

12:44and

12:46there was a settlement on it that we all

12:48would eventually approve

12:50approved

12:52but I think

12:54like when you think about it

12:56and I went to my student being really

12:58we are the only school that has two entrances

13:00the only school

13:02on it

13:04My wife having worked at two schools

13:06and the same thing

13:08they had small incentives

13:10that

13:12guided them remotely close

13:14to a legitimate incentive for both schools

13:16she works at

13:18it seems like a lot

13:20to ask of the teachers

13:22in the current state of things

13:24and

13:26wait, go ahead

13:28don't wait two to five people going

13:30through the door at 25 during the ball game

13:32I think I agree with you Greg

13:34I don't see why this is happening

13:36and the football

13:38the path comes from the west entrance

13:40right or is there something

13:42there's a few because

13:44I mean there's no really

13:46that was

13:48I don't know how you did

13:50that's just

13:52we talked about

13:54it really honestly is a horrible setup

13:56we do have

13:58affordable parking

14:00we don't have that football field

14:02there's not

14:04a big enough really parking lot

14:06on either side

14:08so

14:10well then if it's cold

14:12or like in my case

14:14I could sit and watch

14:16quite

14:18a little

14:20game I will sit on that

14:22and I can watch the game from up there

14:24and there's a lot of people in the weather

14:26they do that

14:28one of the other observations

14:30I know other

14:32a couple

14:34school board members from other schools

14:36that I just did

14:38said that their booster club does it

14:40and that's just the way

14:42it is

14:44they're joining the school board

14:46does tickets

14:48what does this money go to

14:50that you collect for tickets

14:52into the athletics fund

14:54and pay us for raps

14:56and everything that's with

14:58athletics

15:00does that need to put the meals for these football players

15:02on the ballot

15:04well you can

15:06yeah

15:08but whether or not that's

15:10the booster club would want to organ

15:12he said they can't be something

15:14if life happens around the door

15:16you know and any people

15:18they're expecting it to be

15:20and honestly the big thing

15:22is for John

15:24the situation is to catch

15:26the catch

15:28account so

15:30the accounting part gets a little sketchy

15:32play with that

15:34I

15:36agree with Greg on the whole volunteer thing

15:38they're standing on the volunteer

15:40but they're actually going to show up

15:42and if they don't

15:44then you're traveling trying to put a sign up

15:46on the back door saying sorry it's closed

15:48go around the front

15:50close the door

15:52there's one

15:54if my fingerprint works back there

15:56let's just walk it down

16:02so that's kind of where we're at

16:04there

16:06if it's a decision

16:08I mean I know it's on board action

16:12but

16:14we either have to do it now

16:16I think it's wrong to do it for not doing it for volleyball

16:18but all of a sudden now it's basketball

16:20we're going to do it

16:22I mean that's not a good one

16:24but yeah

16:26I mean hopefully we get

16:28a bigger crowd at volleyball games

16:30basketball games and football games

16:32because I tell you what

16:34so last week for volleyball

16:36our tickets probably just covered that

16:38so

16:44school

16:46testing okay so we received reports

16:48Gerrit I know you're kind of new to this

16:50I don't know if you've seen this so

16:52this is all going to change

16:54as Mrs. Beard has entered in

16:56testlets

16:58which I'm conflicted with because I

17:00like

17:02this but it's okay I'm sure this

17:04will be just great

17:06so this is the

17:08balance this is the report

17:10if you're interested I can send it to you

17:12what we usually do is we let the teachers look at it

17:14send it to them just tell us how we did

17:16as a school

17:18and then it actually breaks it into

17:20grade level

17:22gender

17:24on how we did

17:26so just the follow points you know

17:28I think it's important it says right in here

17:30state average for both

17:32ELA and NAF

17:34which is great

17:36right we're up in some areas

17:38we're down in some areas the really

17:40benefit of this and we pay

17:42800 bucks for this or 900 bucks

17:44the real benefit of this

17:46is when you go to the back it tells

17:48us like our last year

17:50these kids in sixth grade

17:52struggled here in the room

17:54so it tells us right here just an example

17:56on this I'm not going to say who

17:58we lack on target F reason about

18:00and solve one variable equations

18:02and inequalities so that tells us

18:04we need to do a better job

18:06and work on that with our kids right

18:08so this is

18:10really important

18:12and valuable for us it's part

18:14of our ISAP and our accreditation

18:16so

18:18if you'd like to see that I can send it

18:20to you there's a document

18:22so go through this I can shoot it to you

18:24sure

18:26that's all I have

18:28thank you

18:30thank you

18:34I'm on to the financials

18:36claims for

18:38August 9th through the September 3rd

18:40I hope to approve the claims

18:42as presented

18:44I would second that

18:46the motion has been made I can

18:48approve the claims for that time period

18:50is there any discussion

18:52discussion all those

18:54in favor say aye

18:56opposed say sign

18:58aye

19:00opposed say sign

19:02motion carried

19:04activity

19:06I was curious on the art club

19:08is it

19:10when they have a negative opening balance

19:12does it just come out of their savings

19:14it was yes

19:16if it's her just checking

19:18the way that it works at the end of the school year

19:20at the end of the summer

19:22it's into the trip

19:24so the checking

19:26the chance to transfer it until after she balance

19:28so yes it's her own savings

19:30so she's in the positive

19:32that's what I would start with

19:34hey

19:36hey

19:38any other questions

19:40comments

19:42are there any motion to approve

19:44so moved

19:46second

19:48motion has been made

19:50seconded that we have approved the activities

19:52account is currently

19:54discussion discussion all those

19:56in favor say aye

19:58I oppose same sign

20:00motion carries

20:02now we move into the action items

20:04first item

20:06is

20:08on a student

20:10or we look at her acting for executive session

20:12because

20:14right out of the individual

20:16outweighs the public front to know

20:18so if you're not involved with that

21:22discussion

21:24all those in favor of the motion say aye

21:38unexpected cost but it looks like

21:42basically just covering French

21:44and

21:46it's closed

21:50I move to

21:52update bus route

21:54and additional routes for the 24-25 school

21:56years presented

21:58second motion made

22:00second to approve the motion

22:02to update the bus routes

22:04discussion

22:06apparently I just felt a hundred dollars

22:08down there

22:10just get

22:12shorter here

22:14there's too many for Dan is out

22:16yeah

22:18I look through this

22:20okay

22:22and more discussion

22:24all those in favor of the motion say aye

22:26aye

22:28opposed same sign

22:30motion carries

22:34a quote for repairs

22:36to the boiler ventilation system

22:38sorry

22:40so this is long story short

22:42the piping

22:44isn't tall enough

22:46moisture builds up

22:48plugs the pipe

22:50not what makes it cold

22:52finally

22:54also I think the big thing

22:56it also made Scott

22:58be up here during

23:0024-7

23:02in ventilation

23:04so this is the quote

23:06to extend that

23:08to no longer have that problem

23:14well it's still going to

23:16it's just that right now

23:18so let's say the second roof

23:20it's all of the pipe goes to there

23:22and it's just breathing straight down

23:24we'll go from the top

23:26it's like this

23:28and all the moisture goes straight down

23:30well as it goes straight down it hits the ground

23:32and like literally three feet

23:34and they want to make it six or seven feet

23:36so it gets them more of a

23:38dissipated

23:40crazy thing

23:42and it's by the inch that's why it's so expensive

23:44the metal is what's caught so money

23:46it's the metal because they sell it by the inch

23:48I got in the wrong business

23:50I didn't know we did that

23:52how do you have career days

23:54I moved to through the quote from Johnson Controls

23:58I would second that

24:00motion has been made and seconded

24:02I moved the quote to fix the ventilation system

24:04is there any discussion

24:06discussion

24:08all those in favor say aye

24:10opposed and signed

24:12opposed and signed

24:14motion carried

24:16purchase of

24:18a new refrigerator

24:20moved to approve the quote from Hubert

24:22to the standalone refrigerator

24:24and to declare the old refrigerator

24:26abandoned and obsolete

24:28second that

24:30motion has been made and seconded to approve

24:32the quote for the commercial refrigerator

24:34there any discussion

24:36do you want me to put that up for bid

24:38I know that all the people like it

24:40for smokers so do you want them to bid

24:42or do you just want to say come

24:44hey get for a dollar

24:46how would you like to do it

24:48I can run it on the clock

24:50the church work went out

24:52and

24:54yeah oh well I want that

24:56I want that as well if we send it outside

24:58these people that said they want it

25:00I guarantee if we come back tomorrow and still sit in there

25:02we have the crew if we're moving one end

25:04get the other one back

25:06and sit in the back and I know a guy will pick it up

25:08tomorrow

25:14all those in favor

25:16can we vote

25:18all those in favor of approval

25:20of purchase they aye

25:22all those in favor

25:24can you sign

25:26and carry

25:288th grade participation is speech and drama

25:30what's the dot

25:32process behind it

25:34your approach is right there

25:36what's the dot process

25:38so

25:40just this summer MHSA

25:42approved 8th graders being allowed

25:44to compete in speech and drama

25:46these schools approved it

25:48I believe either last year

25:50two years ago we've been seeing some 8th graders

25:52in competition one of the nice

25:54things about having

25:56a younger group of kids in a place like speech and drama

25:58is

26:00you don't run into the things you might see in

26:02sports where there's a big

26:04physical difference

26:06and so you've got 8th graders

26:08learning from and competing directly

26:10against seniors

26:12and being judged against the same criteria

26:14so what we would look at it is almost

26:16a

26:18type of a junior varsity squad

26:20but with the opportunity for them

26:22they have the same opportunity to go

26:24and win and get on to varsity

26:26the way a freshman would in another sport

26:30we have a

26:32reason that that was presented to me

26:34as to why MHSA approved it was because

26:36it went so well for the B schools last year

26:38and like I said we do

26:40compete against B schools so we have

26:42already been competing against these 8th graders

26:44and have seen and heard nothing

26:46bad about it from coaches

26:48we recently had our interest meeting

26:50at which we had 8th

26:528th graders interested in joining the team

26:54which would be wonderful as we

26:56just had 5 seniors this past year

26:58what's the 9th and 12th

27:00participation? 9th and 12th

27:02we are as

27:04I believe

27:066 people confirmed

27:08but there were a U.S. FFA

27:10that day that had told me they may be interested

27:12but I hadn't got to chat with them

27:14more about it

27:16what that looks like compared to

27:18Plentywood

27:20I know they're a big speech in drama school

27:22at least when I was going to school

27:24yes

27:26we're way smaller

27:28no

27:30I can't speak to Plentywood they may be one of the teams

27:32that

27:34is a little bigger than us but we are one of the

27:36biggest teams on the eastern side of the

27:38state

27:40with just 6 and 9th and 12th

27:42last year

27:44we went to the visionals

27:46I see what you're saying

27:48with 14 people last year we were one of the

27:50largest teams on the side of the state

27:52I believe

27:54Plentywood

27:56Plentywood might have been right around 14-15

27:58Colbertson always has like 2021

28:00obviously numbers

28:02fluctuate everywhere but since we started the program

28:04we've had one of the larger teams

28:06at between 12

28:08and 16 over the past few years

28:10did they do any meets here?

28:12we haven't done a meet yet

28:14eventually we'd like to

28:16we have been lucky enough

28:18that the east

28:20has a really good

28:22speech in drama with a lot more seasoned coaches

28:24so they tend to snatch those dates up

28:26since we're competing with basketball

28:28and things like that

28:30it's always just

28:32talking to Mr. Henderson last year

28:34here's the one date you can have

28:36and of course a more senior team

28:38we would love to at one point

28:40but I don't think it's going to happen this year

28:42yeah of course

28:44I mean my living

28:46making speeches and arguing with people

28:48so if it ever does get to that I would be

28:50I would like to have an opportunity

28:52sometime to judge that if we were in need of judges

28:54we

28:56absolutely would be in need of judges

28:58I believe the numbers that were given to me were you need

29:00about 40 fresh judges

29:02for people so

29:04I'll be knocking on everybody's door

29:06but I'll put your name up at the top of the list

29:08thank you

29:10thank you

29:12I would entertain a motion

29:14moved to allow the 8th graders

29:16to participate in speech in drama for 24-25

29:18second

29:20second

29:22discussion

29:24I don't like 8th graders

29:26competing in the high school

29:28sports and events unless

29:30it's necessary, at West Bay it was necessary

29:32because we had so few kids

29:34but it sounds like a good thing with speech in drama

29:36I think I voted in A on every time

29:38that we've allowed 8th graders

29:40into sports but

29:42it sounds good

29:44further discussion

29:48all those in favor of the motion

29:50say aye

29:52both

29:56motion carried

30:04can we add this

30:06or are we going to add it

30:08in this motion can we also add

30:12sub driver

30:14please

30:16move to higher carry delivery

30:18Ms. Wilson as a substitute

30:20driver for the

30:2224-25 school years

30:24pending satisfactory background

30:26checks for

30:28and run guests

30:30and all required certifications

30:32second

30:34motion been made

30:36and seconded to approve the motion

30:38all those in favor say aye

30:40opposed

30:42opposed

30:44and I would abstain from that one

30:48speech and drama

30:50advisers for

30:54that's the same as it has been I believe

30:56yep and they've done an awesome job

30:58I moved to higher

31:02and my unionist is this

31:04from 24-25

32:06all those in favor say aye

32:38Kylie is going to do that

32:40which is an online platform

32:42and since she's going to be here

32:44so that gets paid separately

32:46to build the co-op

32:48and then she'll have another time

32:50instead of going home and she's done

32:52the rest of the day that's Thursday

32:54and Dell's going to do the

33:00we can't find

33:12that's just not going to cross this

33:14that we're trying to figure out

33:16just to really give
