Well, I will call this meeting to order.
I, Tim asked me to chair the meeting as he has gone on and, and late, I think you also
deferred to me because you're, you're out of town and it's a lot easier to have somebody
in person.
So, I will do what I can to do my best.
I guess, is there any additions or corrections to the, the, that need to be done to the agenda?
If not, we'll stay as it is printed.
I'm just a disclaimer to everyone that's here, we'll give you an opportunity to make
public comments, but we can't take action on any of those because you could ask for
us to put it on the agenda at a later meeting as we come up at the next meeting or a special
meeting if that's necessary.
We are being videoed as of the July meeting, I think, when we started.
And if you do address the, the board, we won't probably even answer your questions unless
it's out in, unless it's not Mr. Hardy or, or, or Mrs. Buer, Mrs. Buer can handle for you.
Okay.
That being said, I would entertain a motion to approve the minutes.
I'll, I'll excuse the public comments.
Is there anybody that wanted to, or you missed that?
I think everybody's, maybe you want to speak to us on the agenda.
I got a public comment.
I just want to, just everyone in this room and whoever's online, I just want to thank
Scott Ferris for everything he's done for this school for 37 years.
37?
37.
I think we all, the new work Scott did until someone's gone, you don't realize the magnitude
of what he did.
And he was a guy I looked forward to seeing every day.
We talked about things.
I know he loved this school and the kids that worked for him.
And he was just a great guy.
He's going to be really missed, not only about his school, but the lives that he touched.
So, and I appreciate that.
I thought about mentioning that.
I missed that.
So I'm glad.
Thanks.
And I just, just like that.
Just always there.
I mean, you'd be here in the summer.
He was there.
You'd be here in the winter.
He's there.
You'd drive by.
He's out there.
Hey, now I'll move on to the minutes.
I would entertain a motion to approve those steps and minutes.
I would say, care for second, sir.
Any discussion?
Discussion.
All those in favor of approval of the minutes?
Say aye.
Opposed?
Same time.
Maybe if you're still there.
Yeah.
All right.
Yeah.
Okay.
Now we'll move on to the principal report.
All right.
So, this is, it's called the pre-X or vocational rehab.
This is a program through Montana DPHHS
that provides funding
for pre-employment transition services
for students that have a documented
documented disability.
Like a kid on a Bible 4 and an IEP.
And they don't even have to have
beyond one of those programs
as long as they have a documented disability.
It would, I just,
we met the lady last week.
We would essentially provide services such as
work-based learning,
which some of our kids already knew.
You know, they have to go into the
workforce during the school day,
job exploration,
any type of work readiness training
or post-secondary counseling.
If we were to bring
a college speaker,
you know, to your George College,
any of our kids
that have a documented disability,
we would report that in a quarterly report
and we would get $125
per
experience per kid
we have enrolled with them.
The parents will have to,
if we go through with this, the parent
will have to enroll their child
for saying we have to get some information.
But I know like one of our students
already goes to Cromwell's
and helps,
helps with the truck
and we could use that to pay him a wage.
So he's making money
that could be incorporated into his classroom
where they were learning budgeting, things like that.
So after I met with her,
I really thought this would be a good program,
something that the money is there
for this and a lot of people don't take it,
a lot of schools don't take advantage of it.
And so we're, I'm going to work with Mrs. Campbell on,
because Mrs. Campbell will be more
paperwork on her end than it would be
on our end to document some of these things.
But I think we could work together
and do it and get some
funds for some of these programs
that I think would be important.
So that's in the works, I'll keep
you updated on that.
The mask testing, which is our name state testing,
working with Mrs. Rask,
she's done a lot of training
on our new testing portal.
She sent it out to the teachers to start
to be able to look on there.
We have to set up our testlets
for math.
So our teachers are working on math,
our teachers that teach math,
Mrs. Madernach, Mrs. Green and Mr. Stathes,
they can pick when we test
each testlet based on when they teach the standards.
So it's new for all of us,
so it's kind of a learning curve,
but I think we'll get through it
and I think it will hopefully be a good
tool that we can use throughout the year
rather than one test at the end.
Upcoming, we did the book last last year
and had a phenomenal response.
So we're doing it again this year.
We'll see if we get as good of a response
or if we need to take a year in between.
We'll see.
We ended up with like $1,800
that came back to the school directly
that teachers could use with books.
I ended up giving all of them
gift cards to this
school supply store
online with our remaining amounts
so that they were able to use that for themselves
and their classrooms.
So that will be
the 16th through the 25th.
You'll see if you look here on our Facebook page
we post things on there and
the winners of all the fun prizes they have.
I'm doing the Title I training
in the Mild City next week.
We did our Title I
which is called an audit.
We started that
and we learned there's a lot of things
that go into Title I that we didn't even realize.
Federal reporting
and forms that we have to send didn't know
it was a thing.
So I think this training will be good for me
so that I know as well
going forward how we incorporate and do all
check all the boxes.
And then Red Ribbon Week which is all the way at the end of October
but I already had the Board of Patrol
Kurt Nelson
who's been in touch with the Board of Patrol in the Sheriff's Office
come to meet with me
to kind of line up some things.
Coffee with a cop and the Board of Patrol
would like to do something that week.
Which actually works out because Ms. Woodock
usually was kind of spearhead of Red Ribbon Week
so Kim Miller
who's our prevention specialist has reached out
and along with our Board of Patrol
and Sheriff's Department
they will kind of help so it's not one person
necessarily doing it all.
So that would be good for that week.
Any questions?
Thanks.
You're already?
Okay, first thing I got is the roof on the big
gym as we know 25 years is up
the old brothers came
and they looked at that gym
and I'm still waiting on two quotes.
Essentially
one quote is going to be what it would take
if we replaced it all
and the second quote would be maybe
some type of
repair that can go on that would be considered
be cheaper that would work.
With that I just have to make sure I talk
with Perry Wolf to ensure that
insurance would cover that. That's the big thing.
I also talked to Rasmussen
today.
He's going to come walk the roof too so we'll
out.
He heard the bid was out I said no there's no bid
yet. Overdoing is just
gathering. Basically we want
to know as a quote do we have it in our
Builder Reserve Fund.
What's the number if we have to go
ask our tax bearer to
get that roof covered.
And
secondly
I've seen maybe that
riffs in good shape and we'll get another five years out
of it. I don't know yet so I will let you know
as soon as I know.
Kitchen supplies
it's another thing the double door stainless bridge
broke.
We ordered a new one and got that moved in
last Friday
morning.
And then also looking at
ordering a new cart
for food. Remember we're cash heavy
in that account.
And second from other things
we actually had to kind of get rid of it.
That sort of getting created. You saw all that
kind of stuff so that would come out of that
account.
Ooh the big one entrances for
games.
We have some fireworks it's okay
so we close
this out doors for entrance. I think
it's important to know like when we talked
about it and kind of start looking at numbers
we average like two to five people
in the back door for volleyball over the last
couple years. We're talking about
25 people
at a max for basketball games
that use that back door.
I understand and sympathize
with everyone yes our parking is horrible
I'm not here to argue but I
would say you know the metro you probably
walk a lot farther if you want to stay back
the ball in the music center
on ice as well.
I guess the question and the guidance
I'm looking for is do we just close that
down like we said we were going to
do
or option B
I know
it was brought that volunteers I do not think
that's the way to go.
Just because light comes up and I think you get really
confusing for our people
if it's open one game I couldn't be
able to next and open and closed
or third
which we kind of
test it out we can close those doors
put a gate across it
and funnel people down this hallway
and up the ramp
to one ticket spot location.
So
just kind of looking for guidance
I mean
there isn't
it's doable
it's kind of what we did
this last volleyball game
I mean the director wasn't locked
people could come in
I think my frustration
in all honesty is I know there's a lot of things said
my frustration
I heard from three people that actually
reached out to me
I shouldn't say four
one with the concern
three that were actually glad that back door
was shut.
So from my perspective
no one that
the issue that hasn't reached out and even called
or talked to us about
at daily capacity
which then in that case
makes me think it was a good decision
right?
So
where I'm leaning
is opening that back door
and basically blocking
off and funneling to one ticket location
while making track
there's only
people doing it and next year
we say
so when you come in front
then you'll have to come into the main school
and around also
you just come
and then we'd be
so these doors would be shut in the back
and they'd lock by a mist
with oxhole the room
and then
you know
as we were getting barricaded
there are already a few covers in the comments
what are the teachers
getting tickets?
Nothing
so that was
negotiated in
well before I was here
or in the master agreement that
it falls under duties as a sign
that was
a piece of negotiations
and
there was a settlement on it that we all
would eventually approve
approved
but I think
like when you think about it
and I went to my student being really
we are the only school that has two entrances
the only school
on it
My wife having worked at two schools
and the same thing
they had small incentives
that
guided them remotely close
to a legitimate incentive for both schools
she works at
it seems like a lot
to ask of the teachers
in the current state of things
and
wait, go ahead
don't wait two to five people going
through the door at 25 during the ball game
I think I agree with you Greg
I don't see why this is happening
and the football
the path comes from the west entrance
right or is there something
there's a few because
I mean there's no really
that was
I don't know how you did
that's just
we talked about
it really honestly is a horrible setup
we do have
affordable parking
we don't have that football field
there's not
a big enough really parking lot
on either side
so
well then if it's cold
or like in my case
I could sit and watch
quite
a little
game I will sit on that
and I can watch the game from up there
and there's a lot of people in the weather
they do that
one of the other observations
I know other
a couple
school board members from other schools
that I just did
said that their booster club does it
and that's just the way
it is
they're joining the school board
does tickets
what does this money go to
that you collect for tickets
into the athletics fund
and pay us for raps
and everything that's with
athletics
does that need to put the meals for these football players
on the ballot
well you can
yeah
but whether or not that's
the booster club would want to organ
he said they can't be something
if life happens around the door
you know and any people
they're expecting it to be
and honestly the big thing
is for John
the situation is to catch
the catch
account so
the accounting part gets a little sketchy
play with that
I
agree with Greg on the whole volunteer thing
they're standing on the volunteer
but they're actually going to show up
and if they don't
then you're traveling trying to put a sign up
on the back door saying sorry it's closed
go around the front
close the door
there's one
if my fingerprint works back there
let's just walk it down
so that's kind of where we're at
there
if it's a decision
I mean I know it's on board action
but
we either have to do it now
I think it's wrong to do it for not doing it for volleyball
but all of a sudden now it's basketball
we're going to do it
I mean that's not a good one
but yeah
I mean hopefully we get
a bigger crowd at volleyball games
basketball games and football games
because I tell you what
so last week for volleyball
our tickets probably just covered that
so
school
testing okay so we received reports
Gerrit I know you're kind of new to this
I don't know if you've seen this so
this is all going to change
as Mrs. Beard has entered in
testlets
which I'm conflicted with because I
like
this but it's okay I'm sure this
will be just great
so this is the
balance this is the report
if you're interested I can send it to you
what we usually do is we let the teachers look at it
send it to them just tell us how we did
as a school
and then it actually breaks it into
grade level
gender
on how we did
so just the follow points you know
I think it's important it says right in here
state average for both
ELA and NAF
which is great
right we're up in some areas
we're down in some areas the really
benefit of this and we pay
800 bucks for this or 900 bucks
the real benefit of this
is when you go to the back it tells
us like our last year
these kids in sixth grade
struggled here in the room
so it tells us right here just an example
on this I'm not going to say who
we lack on target F reason about
and solve one variable equations
and inequalities so that tells us
we need to do a better job
and work on that with our kids right
so this is
really important
and valuable for us it's part
of our ISAP and our accreditation
so
if you'd like to see that I can send it
to you there's a document
so go through this I can shoot it to you
sure
that's all I have
thank you
thank you
I'm on to the financials
claims for
August 9th through the September 3rd
I hope to approve the claims
as presented
I would second that
the motion has been made I can
approve the claims for that time period
is there any discussion
discussion all those
in favor say aye
opposed say sign
aye
opposed say sign
motion carried
activity
I was curious on the art club
is it
when they have a negative opening balance
does it just come out of their savings
it was yes
if it's her just checking
the way that it works at the end of the school year
at the end of the summer
it's into the trip
so the checking
the chance to transfer it until after she balance
so yes it's her own savings
so she's in the positive
that's what I would start with
hey
hey
any other questions
comments
are there any motion to approve
so moved
second
motion has been made
seconded that we have approved the activities
account is currently
discussion discussion all those
in favor say aye
I oppose same sign
motion carries
now we move into the action items
first item
is
on a student
or we look at her acting for executive session
because
right out of the individual
outweighs the public front to know
so if you're not involved with that
we'd ask you to leave
I want to support her
we'd like to get to one time
I'll call the meeting back
to the session
I would entertain the motion
I move to allow student aid to allow
school schools and minimum of two periods a day
with a 24-25 school
second
second
the motion has been made
seconded to approve the motion
discussion
discussion all those in favor say aye
aye
opposed same sign
motion carries
okay
booster closed
thank you very much
appreciate it
I move to allow the students
to go to the club
I guess that's all involved
24-25
second
there's a second
discussion
all those in favor of the motion say aye
aye
opposed same sign
motion carries
now we have to change the buffer
else a little bit
unexpected cost but it looks like
it's handled
basically just covering French
and
it's closed
I move to
update bus route
and additional routes for the 24-25 school
years presented
second motion made
second to approve the motion
to update the bus routes
discussion
apparently I just felt a hundred dollars
down there
just get
shorter here
there's too many for Dan is out
yeah
I look through this
okay
and more discussion
all those in favor of the motion say aye
aye
opposed same sign
motion carries
a quote for repairs
to the boiler ventilation system
sorry
so this is long story short
the piping
isn't tall enough
moisture builds up
plugs the pipe
not what makes it cold
finally
also I think the big thing
it also made Scott
be up here during
24-7
in ventilation
so this is the quote
to extend that
to no longer have that problem
well it's still going to
it's just that right now
so let's say the second roof
it's all of the pipe goes to there
and it's just breathing straight down
we'll go from the top
it's like this
and all the moisture goes straight down
well as it goes straight down it hits the ground
and like literally three feet
and they want to make it six or seven feet
so it gets them more of a
dissipated
crazy thing
and it's by the inch that's why it's so expensive
the metal is what's caught so money
it's the metal because they sell it by the inch
I got in the wrong business
I didn't know we did that
how do you have career days
I moved to through the quote from Johnson Controls
I would second that
motion has been made and seconded
I moved the quote to fix the ventilation system
is there any discussion
discussion
all those in favor say aye
opposed and signed
opposed and signed
motion carried
purchase of
a new refrigerator
moved to approve the quote from Hubert
to the standalone refrigerator
and to declare the old refrigerator
abandoned and obsolete
second that
motion has been made and seconded to approve
the quote for the commercial refrigerator
there any discussion
do you want me to put that up for bid
I know that all the people like it
for smokers so do you want them to bid
or do you just want to say come
hey get for a dollar
how would you like to do it
I can run it on the clock
the church work went out
and
yeah oh well I want that
I want that as well if we send it outside
these people that said they want it
I guarantee if we come back tomorrow and still sit in there
we have the crew if we're moving one end
get the other one back
and sit in the back and I know a guy will pick it up
tomorrow
all those in favor
can we vote
all those in favor of approval
of purchase they aye
all those in favor
can you sign
and carry
8th grade participation is speech and drama
what's the dot
process behind it
your approach is right there
what's the dot process
so
just this summer MHSA
approved 8th graders being allowed
to compete in speech and drama
these schools approved it
I believe either last year
two years ago we've been seeing some 8th graders
in competition one of the nice
things about having
a younger group of kids in a place like speech and drama
is
you don't run into the things you might see in
sports where there's a big
physical difference
and so you've got 8th graders
learning from and competing directly
against seniors
and being judged against the same criteria
so what we would look at it is almost
a
type of a junior varsity squad
but with the opportunity for them
they have the same opportunity to go
and win and get on to varsity
the way a freshman would in another sport
we have a
reason that that was presented to me
as to why MHSA approved it was because
it went so well for the B schools last year
and like I said we do
compete against B schools so we have
already been competing against these 8th graders
and have seen and heard nothing
bad about it from coaches
we recently had our interest meeting
at which we had 8th
8th graders interested in joining the team
which would be wonderful as we
just had 5 seniors this past year
what's the 9th and 12th
participation? 9th and 12th
we are as
I believe
6 people confirmed
but there were a U.S. FFA
that day that had told me they may be interested
but I hadn't got to chat with them
more about it
what that looks like compared to
Plentywood
I know they're a big speech in drama school
at least when I was going to school
yes
we're way smaller
no
I can't speak to Plentywood they may be one of the teams
that
is a little bigger than us but we are one of the
biggest teams on the eastern side of the
state
with just 6 and 9th and 12th
last year
we went to the visionals
I see what you're saying
with 14 people last year we were one of the
largest teams on the side of the state
I believe
Plentywood
Plentywood might have been right around 14-15
Colbertson always has like 2021
obviously numbers
fluctuate everywhere but since we started the program
we've had one of the larger teams
at between 12
and 16 over the past few years
did they do any meets here?
we haven't done a meet yet
eventually we'd like to
we have been lucky enough
that the east
has a really good
speech in drama with a lot more seasoned coaches
so they tend to snatch those dates up
since we're competing with basketball
and things like that
it's always just
talking to Mr. Henderson last year
here's the one date you can have
and of course a more senior team
we would love to at one point
but I don't think it's going to happen this year
yeah of course
I mean my living
making speeches and arguing with people
so if it ever does get to that I would be
I would like to have an opportunity
sometime to judge that if we were in need of judges
we
absolutely would be in need of judges
I believe the numbers that were given to me were you need
about 40 fresh judges
for people so
I'll be knocking on everybody's door
but I'll put your name up at the top of the list
thank you
thank you
I would entertain a motion
moved to allow the 8th graders
to participate in speech in drama for 24-25
second
second
discussion
I don't like 8th graders
competing in the high school
sports and events unless
it's necessary, at West Bay it was necessary
because we had so few kids
but it sounds like a good thing with speech in drama
I think I voted in A on every time
that we've allowed 8th graders
into sports but
it sounds good
further discussion
all those in favor of the motion
say aye
both
in sign
motion carried
have some personality issues
first of all the higher
an additional bus driver
can we add this
or are we going to add it
in this motion can we also add
Reagan Wilson as the
sub driver
please
move to higher carry delivery
Ms. Wilson as a substitute
driver for the
24-25 school years
pending satisfactory background
checks for
and run guests
and all required certifications
second
motion been made
and seconded to approve the motion
all those in favor say aye
opposed
opposed
and I would abstain from that one
speech and drama
advisers for
speech
that's the same as it has been I believe
yep and they've done an awesome job
I moved to higher
call the unionist they had a speech and drama coach
and my unionist is this
from 24-25
motion to made and seconded
discussion
discussion
all those in favor of approval of the main
motion say aye
opposed
same sign
motion carried
now to junior high
girl basketball
move to higher mat standoff
as the head coach for the junior high
girls basketball team for country 4
I just got a little assistance
I got one
I would say
motion has been made and seconded
that we hire mat standoff
as the junior high girls basketball coach
discussion
discussion
I'm sure we probably won't find an assistant
coach with him
we'll put that on the record
any further discussion
please do
all those in favor say aye
opposed same sign
motion carried
and then some paraprofessionals
move to higher girl and
Kylie as paraprofessionals
and OTA for the 24-25
school year pending the background
checks
motion has been made
and seconded on the motion
is there further discussion
how are they going to split
so
for OTA services to the co-op
Kylie is going to do that
which is an online platform
and since she's going to be here
so that gets paid separately
to build the co-op
and then she'll have another time
instead of going home and she's done
the rest of the day that's Thursday
and Dell's going to do the
Wednesday
so we're trying to be creative
we can't find
like a full time
just convince people like can you give us one
day so it would be nice
if we could find one person to do two
or two in order to do one
that's just not going to cross this
that we're trying to figure out
just to really give
Ms. Kimball
another person
and Mrs. Nelson
help in their classroom so
that's a special way
council
further discussion
further discussion
all those in favor of the motion
say aye
opposed same sign
motion carried
and then moving into
the
just in order to trust these open
meeting comments
the only thing I have is
MSL is the week of
15th and 18th
if you want to go with the extension
you might want to let me know
so I could sign up
at least because I know there's no more rooms
in the block but I know you can still get that
if you want to go
the auditors
will be here that following Monday
after that so
we're going to have three days of that
and
our next meeting is
October 14th
that should work for me
so
anything else
October 14th
you said
I would be
clearly meeting adjourned then
Leonard Chauncey
thank you
